Percussion Gun Therapy

PERCUSSION GUN THERAPY

Recovery from exercise is a vital component of the overall exercise training paradigm, and paramount for high-level performance and continued improvement. If the rate of recovery is appropriate, higher training volumes and intensities are possible without the detrimental effects of overtraining.

WHAT IS A PERCUSSION GUN AND HOW CAN IT HELP ME RECOVER?

Like a traditional massage, the gun aims to reduce inflammation by flushing extracellular fluids such as lymph fluid and venous blood out of the muscle tissue and into the circulatory system. It can help relax tight muscles, break up scar tissue and adhesions, and minimize muscle soreness and tension. A small study published in the Journal of Clinical and Diagnostic Research found percussive therapy to be as effective as massage in preventing DOMS (delayed onset muscle soreness).

This study in Conclusion: Vibration therapy and massage are equally effective in prevention of DOMS. Massage is effective in restoration of concentric strength (1 RM). Yet vibration therapy shows clinically early reduction of pain and is effective in decreasing the level of LDH in 48 hours post exercise periods.

Typically you will experience soreness post-exercise for 48-72 HRS. With a recovery method such as a percussion gun, your recovery time can be reduced to as little as 24HRS. This gives you the ability to be more efficient during your training and not have to worry about the detrimental cause of overtraining.

PERCUSSION THERAPY FOR PAIN RELIEF

Percussion therapy induces the same golgi tendon organelle response as foam rolling. Golgi tendon organs are located in the tendons of muscles and response to a change in muscle tension. As pressure is applied to muscle fibers, a negative feedback loop occurs inhibiting the muscle from contracting.

This response is effective at shutting down overactive muscles. When muscles get too tight or shortened over a long period of time, they can pull on joints creating imbalances that lead to pain. For example, if we sit for too long, our hip flexors and quadriceps may get too tight and pull on the pelvis. Inactive glutes cannot fight this pull to balance out the pelvis and can lead to lower back pain.

Percussion therapy is also effective at treating tendonitis and bursitis. Tight musculature may be the cause of these types of inflammation and responds better to treatment of pressure rather than stretch as stretch can irritate the fascia even more.

Relief pain and recover faster with percussion therapy!
